The Nigerian Senate on Thursday, November 21 has confirmed the nomination of Omolola Oloworaran for appointment as the new Director-General of the National Pension Commission (PENCOM). The confirmation followed a request from President Bola Tinubu, who had written to the Senate seeking approval for the nominee.
The Senate’s decision came after it considered and adopted the report from the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service during plenary.
Senator Cyril Fasuyi, the committee chairman and member representing the Ekiti North Senatorial District, explained that the committee had thoroughly reviewed the nominee’s qualifications.
According to Fasuyi, Oloworaran met all the legal requirements specified under sections 19 (2), (5), (6), and 26 of the Pension Reform Act 2014, which governs the appointment of the PENCOM Director-General.
Fasuyi further emphasized that the committee had determined Oloworaran to be “a qualified, fit, and proper person” for the role.
Following the committee’s recommendation, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, who presided over the session, called for a voice vote, and the nomination was approved without opposition.
This marks the next step in the leadership of PENCOM as Oloworaran is set to take charge of overseeing Nigeria’s pension system.
