There was heightened tension in Kano on Thursday evening as security operatives from the Department of State Service (DSS) took over the premises of the Kano Emir’s palace at Kofar Kudu, restricting both entry and exit, raising concerns among residents.

Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is anticipated to accompany the newly-appointed Wamban Kano, Munir Sanusi, to his posting in Bichi.

According to DAILY NIGERIAN, the Bichi palace is similarly surrounded by armed police.

Also, unconfirmed reports said the presence of security personnel is linked to an anticipated address by Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II on the contentious tax reform bills.

Sources suggest that the Emir was scheduled to engage with economists on the matter.

As of the time of this report, police vehicles had blocked all entrances to the palace, restricting movement in and out of the area.

The reason for the security deployment remains unclear, and official statements are yet to be issued.

This development has sparked speculation and uncertainty, with residents eagerly awaiting clarity on the situation.

Further updates are expected as the story unfolds.
