Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic truck accident that occurred in the Aiyetoro area of Epe, Lagos State, on Monday, November 11, which claimed the lives of at least three people and left several others injured.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, November 12, Governor Sanwo-Olu extended his condolences to the families of the victims, describing the incident as heartbreaking.
“I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences in light of the tragic traffic accident that occurred in the Aiyetoro area of Epe, Lagos State, yesterday, Monday, 11 November 2024,” Sanwo-Olu wrote.
“Reports indicate that a cement truck suffered brake failure, resulting in the unfortunate loss of lives and injuries sustained.”
The governor expressed his sympathy for the affected families and prayed for the repose of the deceased as well as a swift recovery for the injured victims.
“With deep sorrow, I extend my sympathies to the families of those affected. I also pray for the departed souls and for the speedy recovery of those injured. May the families find solace in the love and support surrounding them, and may the cherished memories of their loved ones bring them some comfort as they navigate their grief.”
According to reports, the tragic accident occurred when a cement truck, descending from Ita-Opo, suffered a brake failure.
The truck reportedly collided with a commercial tricycle and a parked Toyota Camry before plowing into a nearby market. The incident has left the community in shock as the truck’s uncontrolled descent caused significant damage and loss of life.
The Lagos State Government has vowed to investigate the cause of the accident, with authorities urging greater safety measures for commercial vehicles and improved road conditions to prevent such incidents in the future.
Governor Sanwo-Olu’s office has pledged continued support for the affected families, and emergency response teams have been deployed to assist those injured and provide necessary aid.
The community continues to mourn the victims of this devastating accident.
