Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has called on 1,130 newly graduated police constables to uphold integrity, professionalism, and the highest ethical standards as they commence their duties in the Nigeria Police Force. 

The governor gave this charge during the 2022 Constable Passing-Out Parade held at the Police College in Ikeja yesterday.  

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Governor Sanwo-Olu congratulated the constables for their dedication and hard work during the rigorous six-month training program. 

He emphasised the importance of treating citizens with respect and maintaining integrity, even in challenging situations.

“You have made your State, Country, and Families very proud. The oath you have taken today is a solemn commitment to uphold the law, protect lives and property, and serve the public with integrity, courage, and compassion. The challenges ahead will be demanding, but your training and values will guide you,” the Governor said.  

He also urged the recruits to pursue continuous professional development to stay updated on modern policing techniques and best practices.

The governor commended the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, and the faculty of the Police College for their dedication to nurturing the recruits. 

He also acknowledged the sacrifices of the parents and guardians whose support contributed to this milestone.  

In his address, the Review Officer and Inspector General of Police, IGP, Kayode Egbetokun, represented by Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, urged the constables to prioritise the safety and security of the nation.

He encouraged them to be calm yet firm in exercising their authority to protect lives and enforce the law.  

Of the 1,130 graduating constables, 717 are male and 313 female, with 266 being indigenes of Lagos State. 

The passing-out ceremony in Lagos was part of a nationwide event, with similar graduations taking place in four other police colleges and 12 training schools across Nigeria, totalling 10,000 new constables.  

The event’s highlight was the presentation of awards to the best-performing constables in various training categories.
