Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, announced on Wednesday that the state’s minimum wage will be raised to ₦85,000, with a further increase to ₦100,000 planned for next year.

During his appearance on Channels TV, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the achievements of his administration, noting that the state’s budget has tripled since he took office in 2019.

He revealed that Lagos now operates on a ₦2.3 trillion budget, with a performance rate exceeding 90% year-on-year.

Looking ahead, the governor projected that the 2024 budget would close at ₦2.5 trillion, to raise it to ₦3 trillion in 2025.

Sanwo-Olu also emphasised the progress made in developing Lagos’ urban transportation system, which now integrates multiple modes of transport including rail, BRT buses, water transportation, taxis, and last-mile buses.

Regarding infrastructure, the governor said that while preparations for the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge are complete, the project has been delayed due to a lack of funding.

He also confirmed that work has commenced on an alternative airport in Ibeju-Lekki.

“Lagos being ranked high in terms of good nightlife is jubilation but I am more concerned about how to sustain the economy of the metropolis. My administration has taken different measures to provide relief for Lagos residents amid the prevalent hunger and hardship in Nigeria.

“While I hate to compare Governors in terms of performance, one fact is crystal clear and that’s that Governor Sanwo-Olu is outperforming himself in terms of governance. While Governance goes on sabbatical during most Governors’ 2nd term in office, my Governor is working harder to bring a good deal to Lagos. Surely Lagosians made the right choice by not entering a one-chance bus in the last election.

Congratulations, Lagos”, he said.
