Rivers Crisis Rooted in Resource Control, Says Governor Fubara

Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has asserted that the ongoing political crisis in the state is primarily driven by competition over the control of state resources.

During a celebration marking the 51st birthday of Apostle Chibuzor Chinyere, the General Overseer of Omega Power Ministries Worldwide, Fubara emphasised his commitment to utilizing state resources for the benefit of the people.

Addressing attendees at the church’s headquarters in Mbodo, Aluu, Fubara stated, “There is a reason for this crisis, and that reason is the control of the resources of Rivers State. Rivers State’s resources belong to you (the people), and we will ensure they are applied judiciously for the betterment of Rivers State.”

Fubara urged the public to continue praying for the government, acknowledging the challenges faced by those in power. He remarked, “What is most important is the interest of the people here, and I believe that with your prayers, we will not lose focus, and the purpose of governance will be achieved in Rivers State.”

The governor praised Apostle Chinyere for his philanthropic efforts and the various educational initiatives undertaken by the ministry, aimed at equipping children with vocational and technical skills for future employment. “Life is not all about taking; what is important is giving,” Fubara said, commending the cleric’s contributions to society.

To support the church’s ongoing infrastructure projects, Fubara announced a donation of N200 million, expressing gratitude for the church’s support of his administration. “I am happy to be here, especially to celebrate this birthday with him. He has been a very strong supporter of our cause,” he stated.

The governor noted the importance of the church’s prayers in helping him navigate the political landscape, saying, “I strongly believe his prayer and the prayers of the church are one of the reasons that while in the face of all our troubles, we are still standing.”

Apostle Chinyere also addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of charitable giving within Christianity. He announced the establishment of an All Girls’ Technical College, aimed at empowering young women and combating issues like prostitution. “The only way to solve this problem is to empower the girl child,” he said.

The event also featured remarks from Mrs. Patience Jonathan, wife of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who commended Apostle Chinyere as a beacon of hope and spiritual guidance in Rivers State. She urged continued prayers for peace in the region, underscoring the importance of unity and support within the community.
