….’Take It Back Movement’ threatens massive demonstration

A protest is set to commence on December 10 and will be led by the rights advocacy group, ‘Take It Back Movement’, alongside other activists, including Omoyele Sowore over the arrest of a human rights lawyer, Dele Farotimi.

According to the ‘Take It Back Movement’, the protesters will demand the release of Farotimi who was recently remanded in prison by the presiding Magistrate of the Ado-Ekiti Magistrate court, Abayomi Adeosun.

The magistrate ordered his remand and adjourned the case until December 10.

NEW DAILY PRIME reports that Farotimi was accused of defamation against legal luminary and founder of Afe Babalola University, Aare Afe Babalola, in his book ‘Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.’

His arrest sparked outrage on social media as rights groups, among others, condemned it as an assault on free speech.

In a statement shared on its official X handle, Take It Back Movement confirmed the protest plans scheduled to take place across four major locations— the Afe Babalola Chambers in Lagos, the Federal Ministry of Justice in Abuja, the Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti, and King’s College Campus in London.

Sowore, on his part, described the situation as a grave injustice.

In a series of posts via his X page, he urged Nigerians and the global community to rise against what he termed “crimes against humanity hatched between the police and the judiciary.”

“The Abuja movement on December 10 is taking serious shape. We must converge by 7 AM at the Federal Ministry of Justice and occupy the Federal High Court Complex. Mass transport plans to Ado-Ekiti, Lagos, and London are being finalized. Enough is enough. #FreeDeleFarotimi NOW!,” he wrote.
