Police arrest man for setting wife ablaze in Ogun

A 55-year-old man, identified as Olubunmi Johnson has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly setting his wife, Kikelomo on fire in their apartment on Fagbuyi Street, Ilogbo, in the Ota area of Ogun State.

According to Punch, an eyewitness on Saturday evening said the incident happened around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, following a domestic dispute though the exact circumstances leading to the confrontation has not been disclosed.

The spokesperson for the state police command, Omolola Odutola told journalists that the culprit has been detained in connection with the crime.

The report said a neighbour who witnessed the incident alerted the victim’s relatives, who then informed the police.

The spokesperson said police officers from the Ilogbo Division quickly took action, and arrested the suspect.

Odutola said, “The husband doused his wife’s body with petrol and set her on fire with a match. Witnesses to the incident immediately rushed her to the hospital.

“Upon receiving the report, our detectives quickly took action and arrested the husband, who has since been detained.”
