Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has hinted that his in-law, Pastor Bayo Adeyokunnu, might succeed the late Oba Adekunle Aromolaran as the Owa of Obokun of Ijeshaland in Osun State.

Adeyokunnu, who serves as the Deputy Continental Overseer of RCCG in the United States, is reportedly being considered as a possible successor to the throne following the death of Oba Aromolaran on September 12, 2024.

Pastor Adeboye made this suggestion during the 70th birthday celebration of Adeyokunnu at the RCCG Victory Temple in Bowie, Maryland, on October 16, 2024.

In a video clip from the event, Adeboye humorously remarked that while it may seem like a joke, “God might take your joke seriously,” hinting that his in-law could indeed become the next king.

He also shared that both he and Adeyokunnu are from Ijeshaland, and in accordance with local tradition, he refrained from praying in English before the royal highness.

Adeboye, reflecting on their decades-long relationship, fondly recalled their 60-year friendship, describing Adeyokunnu as a prayer warrior and a dedicated Christian who had been born again under his ministry.

He shared that Adeyokunnu’s spiritual journey began with a sermon titled “Come and Drink,” and since then, Adeyokunnu had been a faithful follower, continuously seeking deeper spiritual growth.

If Adeyokunnu’s candidacy is successful, he would become the second RCCG pastor from the United States to hold a traditional royal title, following Ọba Ghandi Ọláoyè, who became the Soun of Ogbomoso in Oyo State a year ago.
