The Governor of Oyo State, Mr. Seyi Makinde, has given his approval for the release of ₦214.15 million to fund the reconstruction of the official residence of the state’s Head of Service. This long-abandoned project is set to be completed within six months, marking a significant step in the revitalization of infrastructure for the state’s civil service leadership.

This development was revealed on Wednesday through an official statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade. The announcement followed the conclusion of the 14th State Executive Council meeting, which took place on Tuesday.

According to Prince Oyelade, the reconstruction of the Head of Service quarters is a testament to Governor Makinde’s unwavering commitment to improving the welfare and working conditions of civil servants in Oyo State. He emphasized that the administration’s focus on enhancing infrastructure reflects its respect for the civil service and its leadership.

“The official quarters of the Head of Service, which had been abandoned for several years and rendered uninhabitable, will now be rebuilt into a modern and comfortable residence,” Oyelade stated. “This project serves as a symbol of the administration’s dedication to the rejuvenation of both the civil and public service in the state.”

The governor’s approval of this project is seen as part of broader efforts to uplift the civil service, which is regarded as the backbone of governance and public administration. By addressing this critical infrastructure gap, the state government aims to ensure that the leadership of the civil service operates in an environment that reflects the dignity and importance of their roles.

In addition to the Head of Service residence, the State Executive Council also approved key projects aimed at addressing pressing urban challenges. Among these is the enhancement of the Iwo Road Roundabout and the expansion of the ongoing reconstruction at the Adegbayi Junction-Bus Terminal-Iwo Road Interchange along the Ibadan-Ife Expressway.

Speaking on the upgrades, Oyelade highlighted that the Iwo Road expansion is designed to alleviate the persistent traffic congestion experienced during peak hours and mitigate the recurring issue of flooding at the roundabout during heavy rains. The project aligns with the administration’s focus on improving urban mobility and creating a more efficient transportation network within the state.

Furthermore, the council approved a state-wide free medical mission, which will be rolled out across all 33 local government areas of Oyo State. This initiative is geared toward improving healthcare access and reducing mortality rates associated with communicable diseases.

The free medical mission will offer a wide range of services, including free surgeries, eye care services, cervical cancer screening, and health education programs. Oyelade explained that the initiative underscores the administration’s dedication to ensuring the well-being of residents, particularly those in underserved communities.

“This free medical mission is a critical component of the government’s efforts to enhance healthcare delivery across Oyo State,” the commissioner noted. “By bringing essential health services closer to the people, we aim to improve overall health outcomes and significantly reduce mortality rates.

“Governor Makinde’s administration continues to prioritize impactful projects that address both the immediate and long-term needs of Oyo State’s residents. From infrastructure development to healthcare initiatives, these efforts reflect a vision for a more prosperous and inclusive state.
