After Hashim Abioye, the Osun State Chairman of the Independent Electoral Commission, declared the 30 chairmanship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party as winners in Saturday’s local government election, opposition groups have voiced their disagreement with the conduct of the election.

This is as Abioye, in a short video, noted that the PDP cleared the 332 councillors seats in the poll.

He said, “From the available results as obtained from the field, the candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party in the 332 wards emerged as winners. Their names as listed, I as the returning officer of the commission, returned them as duly elected councilors of their respective wards.

“The results are available anytime for anyone interested in the certified true copies.”

Speaking on the matter, the Director of Media of Osun APC, Kola Olabisi, claimed that the result by Abioye was man made.

According to Sunday PUNCH, Abioye criticised OSSIEC, stating that its mishandling of governance issues had turned the state into a laughingstock.

He said, “Where did he get the results from? The whole world knew election did not take place in Osun today, yet OSSIEC, hell-bent on making Osun an object of derision among the comity of states in the country, concocted results.

“It is an illegality that will not stand. No vacancies in council areas in the state.”

Also, Osun State Chairman of the Allied Peoples Movement, Adewale Adebayo, criticised OSSIEC over Saturday’s local government election.

In a conversation with reporters, Adebayo stated that there was no election taking place anywhere in the state, except in Ede, the hometown of Governor Ademola Adeleke.

He argued that OSIEC’s insistence on holding the election was merely to justify the funds allocated, calling the move fraudulent.

He said, “We experience in Osun State today is not an election but a lockdown because people refused to participate in the illegal poll except Ede town where only a few members of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) voted in some polling units of top political appointees of the governor.

“Our party is vindicated with this exercise of our earlier apprehension that OSIEC can never conduct any meaningful election since its chairman, Hashim Abioye, is a card-carrying member of PDP and serves Adeleke as Special Adviser Legal matters and served as PDP caretaker Secretary.”
