Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday offered his campaign insights to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial election.
According to a statement by Aiyedatiwa’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniyan, Mr Obasanjo paid a courtesy visit to the governor at the presidential lodge in Akure, extending his best wishes for victory in the election.
Mr Obasanjo was in Akure to attend the commissioning of Ojaja Park, a residential estate developed by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II.
The ex-president said: “I understand the challenges of this period for you. I remember my campaign for the 1999 election, I covered the entire six states of the South West in one day.
“I think we started in Akure, Ondo State here, then to Ekiti and we got to Lagos around 8 pm. This is a crucial part of the process and I wish you all the best.”
Governor Aiyedatiwa expressed gratitude to the former President for his visit, commending him for his substantial contributions to Nigeria’s progress and noting that his achievements as President are indelibly etched in the nation’s history.
He characterized Mr Obasanjo as a “good recurring decimal” in the country’s journey—a remark that drew laughter from the former President, who even suggested it as a fitting newspaper headline.
Reflecting on his past encounters with the former President, Governor Aiyedatiwa praised Obasanjo’s humility and humanity, observing that despite his distinguished military background and high-profile stature, he remains a remarkably approachable and compassionate leader.
