The Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, has hailed 2024 as a pivotal year for the agency, marking significant strides despite various challenges faced. 

In a heartfelt New Year message to staff, Oyebamiji emphasised the agency’s resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to its mission and vision.

The message, entitled ‘A Message of Hope and Commitment for the New Year 2025,’ was shared with The PUNCH on Sunday. 

In it, Oyebamiji reflected on the agency’s achievements over the past year, acknowledging that while obstacles were encountered, NIWA demonstrated exceptional adaptability and unity.

“The year 2024 was a significant turning point for the National Inland Waterways Authority,” Oyebamiji stated. 

“Despite some challenges, we demonstrated resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to our vision and mission. Together, we achieved milestones that have not only strengthened our operations but have also laid a solid foundation for the future of our Inland Waterways.”

The Managing Director expressed gratitude to God for the gift of life and good health, noting that witnessing the end of 2024 was a privilege. As Nigerians stand on the brink of 2025, Oyebamiji took the opportunity to reflect on the agency’s journey and share a message of hope and inspiration for the year ahead.

“As we enter 2025, I encourage everyone to carry forward the lessons learnt and the successes achieved,” he advised. 

“This new year presents us with an opportunity to build upon our past accomplishments and strive for even greater heights. Our collective efforts have the power to transform the Inland Waterways sector, enhancing connectivity, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering economic growth.”

Looking to the future, Oyebamiji urged the staff to embrace 2025 with renewed hope, energy, and optimism. He reaffirmed that through collaboration, innovation, and excellence, the agency could continue to make significant strides.

“I encourage each of you to set ambitious goals for the Authority and for yourselves, and to support one another in achieving them,” he concluded.

As NIWA moves into the new year, the Managing Director’s message serves as a reminder of the agency’s ongoing commitment to transforming the Inland Waterways sector into a key driver of national development.
