A statement by the Head of Corporate Communication for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Dr. Friday Adakole Elijah, announced on Wednesday that the national grid, for the umpteenth time, had collapsed.

A grid collapse, which occurs due to the breakdown of transmission lines caused by over-frequency or under-frequency, is reported to be responsible for the outage.

Electricity distribution companies confirmed the system outage, which occurred around 1:32 p.m. on Wednesday.

This latest development comes just a month after the national grid collapsed in November.

Confirming the situation, the Jos Electricity Distribution Company (Jos DisCo), in a statement by its Head of Corporate Communication, Dr. Friday Elijah, said:
“Dear esteemed customers, the current outage being experienced within our franchise states is a result of the loss of power supply from the national grid.

“The loss of power supply from the national grid occurred this afternoon at approximately 13:33 hours today, Wednesday, December 11, 2024, resulting in the loss of power supply on all our feeders.

“We hope to restore normal power supply to our esteemed customers as soon as the grid supply is restored to normalcy. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to serve you better.”

Similarly, the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) stated:
“Dear valued customer, kindly be informed that there was a reported case of system disturbance on December 11, 2024, at 13:32 hours, which has resulted in a loss of power supply across our network.
