Nigerian musician Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has addressed the viral claims circulating on social media regarding her alleged pregnancy by American rapper Future.

Tems was a guest on a recent edition of The Breakfast Club podcast, where she discussed her music, tour, and the rise of Afrobeats. During the interview, she was asked about the most outrageous rumor she had ever heard about herself.

In 2023, rumors circulated online that the Afrobeats star was pregnant with Future’s child. The speculation arose after Future’s hit song Wait For You, featuring Drake, which samples Tems’ popular track Higher. In 2023, Wait For You won a Grammy Award for Best Melodic Rap Performance.

Tems had previously denied the pregnancy rumors. In an online video, she expressed shock at how seriously people were taking the false claims, revealing that she had received messages questioning her supposed decision to have Future’s baby, along with death threats.

During her podcast appearance, the Me n U singer expressed surprise at the claims that Future had impregnated her. She questioned the logic behind the rumors and humorously asked why other artists, like Wizkid or Drake, weren’t mentioned instead.

“Oh yeah, I feel like people just take the most controversial thing they can think of. I was thinking, why am I pregnant? And for Future? Why Future? Why him? That’s the craziest thing—why not Wizkid? Why not Drake? Why not someone else? It would be the same thing, but with Future, it’s extreme,” Tems remarked.
