Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, electrified the stage in Ethiopia as the country welcomed the New Year of 2017.

Ethiopia follows its own ancient calendar, which is approximately 7 to 8 years behind the Gregorian calendar used by most of the world. As of September 2024 in the Gregorian calendar, Ethiopia is in the year 2017. The Ethiopian New Year, known as Enkutatash, is celebrated on September 11th (or September 12th in a leap year), marking the start of the new year.

Davido’s performance was a major highlight of the vibrant celebrations, with fans enthusiastically appreciating his explosive delivery, adding to the excitement of the event.

Reacting to the social media buzz surrounding his performance, Davido expressed his excitement about being part of the celebration. On his Instagram story, he wrote:
“Ethiopia, last night was amazing!!”

Davido’s invitation to Ethiopia follows his recent performance at an event in Saint-Tropez, France, on September 6, 2024. The event was attended by notable figures such as Nigerian billionaire and philanthropist Femi Otedola. During his time in France, Davido also met a Saudi prince and introduced himself as the “King of Nigeria.”

Davido recently sparked conversations about a potential Grammy win with his latest single, Joy, a collaboration with five-time Grammy winner Angelique Kidjo. The song, released on August 30, just before the 67th Grammy entry deadline, has garnered significant attention.

The Timeless hitmaker has also announced the release of his fifth project in 2024, which he has previously described as his best work yet
