Niger gov presents N1.5trn 2025 budget to lawmakers

Governor, Mohammed Bago of Niger State has presented a budget proposal of over N1.5 trillion for the 2025 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly.

The proposed budget, themed “Hope for Sustainability and Food Security”, outlines the administration’s priorities for the coming year.

Bago announced the budget on his X page, highlighting its focus on fostering economic growth and addressing critical needs across various sectors.

The budget allocates over N196 billion for recurrent expenditures and more than N1.3 trillion for capital projects, underscoring a commitment to development-driven governance.

According to the governor, the 2025 budget represents a 48.3 per cent increase from the 2024 appropriation, reflecting his administration’s determination to build on past achievements.

He noted that the state achieved 68.88 per cent implementation of the 2024 budget, which was his administration’s first full-year budget.

The proposed budget prioritises key sectors, including security, agriculture, healthcare, education, water and sanitation, infrastructure, social security, and environmental sustainability.

“Our quest for a ‘New Niger’ calls for the collective support, cooperation, and understanding of all Nigerlites,” Bago said. “The successes recorded in the 2024 budget were made possible through your steadfast support, and I am confident that we can achieve even more with the 2025 budget.”

He expressed gratitude to the people of the state for their unwavering trust and reiterated his commitment to fostering equal opportunities for all citizens.

“Together, we can build the #NewNiger of our dreams, where everyone has the chance to thrive,” the governor added.
