NEMSA, OSERB forge new collaboration for electrical standards 

The Nigeria Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) has met with the Ondo State Electricity Regulatory Bureau (OSERB) to discuss establishing an Equipment Standard and Competence Certification Department. 

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Energy, Engr. Johnson Alabi stated that this move aims to address safety and compliance challenges in the state’s electricity sector.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting in Akure, Mr Alabi explained that the initiative seeks to improve the regulation and enforcement of electricity standards across Ondo State. 

In his remarks, Olatunji Light, Chairman of the Transition Committee, provided an overview of the Ondo State Power Sector Law, stressing the importance of collaboration between NEMSA and OSERB for effective electricity market regulation.

Lisma Usman praised the collaborative efforts of the agencies in discussing best practices for the sector, noting that the meeting’s outcomes would positively impact residents. 

He also outlined NEMSA’s responsibilities, including nationwide certification of electrical installations, and emphasized the need for joint efforts to ensure safety and compliance. 

He listed key outcomes of the meeting, such as collaboration on certification and enforcement of technical standards, the formation of a ten-member sub-team to draft a Memorandum of Agreement (MOU) within two weeks, and a draft document by NEMSA for review by the Special Adviser on Energy.

Engr. Johnson Alabi reaffirmed the support of Governor Aiyedatiwa and the government’s commitment to partnering with NEMSA to enforce the Ondo State Electric Power Sector Law 2020 and ensure proper electricity regulation in the state.
