In a strategic effort to boost Nigeria’s automotive sector, the Director-General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), Joseph Osanipin, paid a courtesy visit to the Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment (FMITI), Senator John Owan Enoh. 

The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abuja, aimed to foster collaboration and chart a progressive path for the industry’s growth.

During the meeting, Mr Osanipin presented NADDC’s vision to position Nigeria as a global leader in automotive manufacturing.

He outlined the Council’s ongoing initiatives, including increasing local vehicle production, supporting the development of auto components, expanding the electric vehicle ecosystem, and refining policies to attract investments and stimulate innovation.

“We are committed to creating an enabling environment for the establishment of automotive assembly plants and component manufacturers while ensuring the highest industry standards,” Osanipin emphasized. He also highlighted the Council’s focus on introducing incentives and protective measures to drive industry growth.

However, Enoh commended NADDC’s efforts and reiterated the importance of strengthening the automotive sector to boost Nigeria’s economy. 

He acknowledged the challenges faced by the industry, particularly the high cost of vehicle maintenance and servicing, and called for strategies to stimulate demand for locally assembled vehicles. 

The Minister assured stakeholders of his dedication to providing the leadership needed to address these challenges and align the sector with global standards.

The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including the Special Adviser to the President on Industry, Trade, and Investment, Mr John Ugochukwu Uwajumogu, alongside Directors and staff from NADDC and FMITI.

This engagement underscores the government’s commitment to advancing the automotive sector as a catalyst for sustainable economic growth in Nigeria.
