Officers of the Nigerian Army on Wednesday engaged some unidentified gunmen in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State in a fierce gun duel, leaving in its wake scores dead and many injured.
The Nation reported that the attack occurred at the Aba branch in Ehime Mbano last night.
The report said, “Some non-state actors attacked and killed some soldiers in the area yesterday.
“The whole place is on fire, and troops have taken over nearby communities.”
Residents were said to have fled for their lives amid constant shootings that filled the air, creating a climate of fear and uncertainty.
A resident, who wished to remain anonymous said, “We are terrified. The sound of gunfire is still echoing in our ears. We don’t know what will happen next. We are worried.
“Ehime used to be a serene environment, but we don’t know what is happening now.”
However, as of the time of filing the report, the Nigerian Army and the Police are yet to comment on the development.
