The tussle over a tuber of yam has led to a fatal consequences in Ebonyi State as a 40-year-old man, identified as Joshua Nwafor, allegedly killed his wife, Charity, in Nsokkara, Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the tragic incident occurred in the couple’s home, where they had lived peacefully for 17 years on Saturday.

An eyewitness told newsmen that trouble started when Joshua brought out the yam to cook for the family, but the wife insisted on having roasted yam instead and went ahead to roast it.

The eyewitness said trouble started when an enraged Joshua dragged his wife into the room, locked the door, and beat her until she died.


Confirming the incident, the Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Joshua Ukandu, condemned the tragic incident, assuring that a thorough investigation would be conducted and the suspect would be charged to court.

DSP Joshua Ukandu said, ”The case was reported to us and after the conclusion of investigation that we are conducting, we will charge the suspect to court.

”I want to use this opportunity to advise couples to always seek other means than violence to resolve issues in homes as a seemingly trivial argument could degenerate to a big fight with fatal outcomes and consequences.”
