Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a conducive environment for technological innovation in Oyo State.
In a statement released yesterday by his Special Adviser on Media, Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Makinde highlighted efforts to position the state as a hub for technology-driven initiatives.
The release followed remarks delivered on his behalf by the Senior Special Assistant on Information Communication Technology, Bayo Akande, at the Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Nigeria (RAIN) Summit 1.0, held in Ibadan.
The summit, themed “The Rain of Transformation Is Upon Us: CEOs Arise,” was attended by the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani.

Makinde stated, “Our administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment for technology-focused companies like RAIN to thrive. We’ve established initiatives like the Seyi Makinde Innovation and Technology Hub (SMITH), which provides training in robotics and artificial intelligence to empower our youths.”
He also noted the integration of digital tools in the state’s tertiary institutions to enhance information management and foster partnerships with organizations like RAIN to expand access to cutting-edge tech education for Oyo State residents.
Furthermore, Makinde highlighted the state’s proactive measures in reducing the cost of doing business, citing the implementation of the NCC-recommended rate of N145 per linear meter for infrastructure development.
The summit convener, Olusola Ayoola, emphasised the event’s purpose of bringing together innovators, entrepreneurs, and youths to catalyze technological progress.
“Technology is not just a tool; it is the backbone of our progress,” Ayoola said, calling for stronger partnerships among stakeholders to harness technology for national development. He stressed the role of entrepreneurs in driving economic growth and urged young people to leverage their potential to develop transformative solutions.

Ayoola added, “We must collectively turn challenges into opportunities and ensure that technology bridges the gap to opportunities for our youth.”
The RAIN Summit 1.0 served as a platform for collaboration, inspiring a shared vision of using technology as a force for social and economic transformation.
