The Lagos State Government has sealed multiple illegal buildings in Obalende, Ikoyi, and Lekki as part of its ongoing efforts to enforce physical planning laws and curb unauthorized developments.
Leading the enforcement exercise on Thursday, the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, emphasised the government’s commitment to creating a safe and sustainable built environment for all residents.
He expressed concern over the widespread disregard for planning regulations, citing cases of construction without government-approved plans and unauthorized renovations.
Olumide warned that illegal developments undermine Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s T.H.E.M.E.S Plus Agenda, particularly its goal of making Lagos a 21st-century economy.

“I implore all property owners and developers in the state, especially those planning construction or renovation, to obtain the necessary approvals from the Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPPA). Unpermitted developments and renovations will no longer be tolerated,” he stated.
During the enforcement exercise, officials sealed multiple sites for lacking required permits.
Affected locations included Rummens Road and Bourdillon Road in Ikoyi, Wole Olateju Crescent, Ogbunike Street, and Hilary Onikogu Crescent in Lekki Phase I, as well as various sites in Obalende.
The Commissioner urged residents to report physical planning violations early to help the government take swift action in sustaining Lagos’s urban development agenda.
Also present during the exercise was the General Manager of the Lagos State Planning and Environmental Monitoring Agency (LASPEMA), Daisi Oso, who led the sealing of illegal developments in informal spaces.
The operation was further supported by officials from the Monitoring and Compliance Unit of LASPPPA.

The government reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on illegal buildings, warning that enforcement actions would continue across the state.
