The acting Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State chapter, Bernard Joman, has praised Governor Monday Okpebholo for his commitment to workers’ welfare, highlighting the payment of the 13th-month salary to public servants in the state as a demonstration of his worker-friendly leadership.
Joman noted that the 13th-month salary was paid voluntarily by the governor, without any prompting from the NLC, which he described as a significant act of goodwill. He urged workers to show appreciation by increasing their dedication to their duties.
“What the governor has done shows that he is truly worker-friendly,” Joman said, expressing confidence that this gesture would become a regular part of the governor’s administration, aimed at boosting worker morale, especially during the festive season.
In addition, the Head of Service, Anthony Okungbowa, praised the timely payment of both the November salaries and the 13th-month salary, recognizing the governor’s dedication to improving the workforce’s productivity and motivation.
Governor Okpebholo’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, confirmed that the governor had kept his promise to pay the 13th-month salary, emphasizing the administration’s focus on workers’ welfare and its commitment to making the festive period more enjoyable for them.
Joman also highlighted the prompt payment of November salaries as a positive indication of Okpebholo’s effective governance, noting that despite early criticisms from the opposition, the governor had quickly fulfilled his promises within two weeks of assuming office.
He expressed optimism that Okpebholo’s administration would continue to set a standard for good labour relations, ensuring a productive and harmonious work environment in the state.
