This initiative aims to develop, strengthen, and sustain skills; improve governance; enhance global expertise; provide private sector leadership; and academic excellence through technological advancement across the state, Nigeria, and Africa.
The Kwara State Government made this announcement through its social media platforms on Friday.
The Ilorin Innovation Hub is located on Ahmadu Bello Way in the developing metropolis of Ilorin.
Revealing its partners, the UNDP facility focuses on tangible innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship, noting that it is fully equipped with various tech initiatives to transform ideas into physical solutions.
The government explained that the initiative will position the state as a central hub for sustainable economic growth driven by technological progress.
“By providing access to modern technology and resources, the Makerspace will support the development of technical skills and the creation of prototypes, positioning Kwara State as a center for sustainable economic growth driven by technological progress.”
Temi Kolawole, Managing Director of the Ilorin Innovation Hub, expressed delight, describing the Makerspace as a nurturing environment for talent, developing technical skills among young innovators, entrepreneurs, and students.
According to Kolawole, this partnership will help them join forces with IHS Towers and academia to establish a holistic ecosystem for innovation.
He added, “Even our choice of contractors has been strategic, such as working with Spacefinish, a leader in innovation space design, for the interior and furnishings.”
He highlighted the initiative’s importance and its role in fostering innovation in telecoms, software, and hardware.
The announcement further read, “By bringing together an international development organization, a private sector telecom giant like IHS Towers, and leading academic institutions, the Ilorin Innovation Hub has crafted a robust model for tech-driven growth.
