Kwara gov receives CNG buses, tricycles, lauds FG’s initiative

In a giant strides towards cleaner energy and better public transportation, the Kwara State Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq yesterday took delivery of 20 compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered buses and 20 tricycles from the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGI).

The handover ceremony, held in Ilorin, the state capital underscored a strategic partnership between the federal government, the state, and private sector players to ease the effects of fuel subsidy removal on the populace.

The governor described the initiative as part of efforts to ensure affordable and clean transportation for Kwarans.

“These 18-seater shuttle buses and tricycles will be deployed to support the public transport system at a discounted cost to the people,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of PCNGI for their commitment to a sustainable energy transition. He also highlighted the socio-economic benefits of the initiative, including job creation and poverty reduction.

In collaboration with B-One Mobility Limited, Kwara State is also set to establish an assembly plant for gas-powered tricycles.

The plant will serve as a hub for manufacturing and create direct and indirect employment opportunities, further boosting the state’s economy.

Also, Vice Chairman of PCNGI, Toyin Zubair, emphasised the federal government’s commitment to converting one million vehicles from petrol to CNG as part of its clean energy agenda.

He praised AbdulRazaq for supporting President Tinubu’s transformative policies and for positioning Kwara as a leader in energy innovation.

Atul Saraf, CEO of B-One Mobility Limited, announced plans to expand the initiative to include other CNG-powered vehicles, such as ambulances, garbage tippers, and tractors.

He commended the President’s forward-thinking approach, which he said has created an enabling environment for transformative investments in sustainable transportation.
