Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has expressed his condolences to the government and people of Jigawa State following a tragic tanker explosion.

In a statement released by police spokesperson Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the IGP extended his sympathies to the families of the victims affected by the explosion, which occurred on Tuesday in Majia, Taura Local Government Area. 

The disaster claimed over 100 lives, with more than 70 others injured and currently receiving medical care in various hospitals across the state.

The IGP also commended the swift response of police officers and emergency personnel in extinguishing the fire, evacuating the victims, and restoring order to the affected area.

While offering prayers for the deceased, Egbetokun reaffirmed the police’s commitment to raising public awareness about the dangers of oil scooping and similar hazardous activities. 

He further urged motorists and road users to exercise caution and follow safety guidelines to prevent such tragedies in the future.
