Inter-Agency Confrontation: Gov Adeleke conveys security council meeting

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has scheduled a State Security Council meeting for next week to address recent security concerns, including a clash between police officers and civil defence personnel.

Olawale Rasheed, the governor’s spokesperson, made this known in a statement on Saturday.

The Council will receive updates from various security agencies, alongside key state officials led by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who had intervened before the situation escalated.

Governor Adeleke expressed shock at the public altercation between the two security agencies, calling for strict adherence to operational codes within the law enforcement community.

He also noted an increase in confrontations between police and civilians across the state, urging service commanders to enforce discipline within their ranks to maintain the state’s reputation for a positive civil-security relationship.

The governor emphasised the need to avoid excessive force in law enforcement and urged all stakeholders to act responsibly, safeguarding Osun’s status as one of the most peaceful states in the federation.

“I ask our commanders to enforce discipline and operational rules among their men and women. Rogue operations are increasing, civilian harassment is on the rise and now service-to-service confrontation is added. We must restore normalcy.

“All these matters of urgency will be tackled at the next security council meeting. Our Service Commanders have been wonderful. We must not relax in our quest to restore closer inter-agency partnership and collaboration”, the Governor was quoted as saying in the statement.
