Popular British actor Idris Elba will star in the television version of Chinua Achebe’s breakthrough novel, ‘Things Fall Apart’.

According to Variety, Elba will also produce the project under his production label, 22Summers.

Yoruba Saxon, the production company of actor David Oyelowo, will serve as an executive producer.

Things Fall Apart, released in 1958 and recognized as one of the greatest novels ever written, is the first book in Achebe’s ‘The African Trilogy’. It was followed by No Longer at Ease in 1960 and Arrow of God in 1964.

According to the official description, Things Fall Apart will tell the story of Okonkwo (Elba), a courageous African warrior and leader determined to preserve his people and culture.

It reads, “The story follows Okonkwo (Elba), a fearless African warrior and leader, as British colonizers disrupt his world. His struggle to maintain power and tradition becomes a heart-wrenching confrontation, embodying the tension between strength, vulnerability, and adaptability.”

Elba recently received an Emmy nomination for his lead role in the Apple series ‘Hijack’.

He previously earned four nominations for his role in the British crime drama series ‘Luther’.

Earlier this year, he collaborated with media mogul Mo Abudu on the film ‘Dust to Dreams’.

Elba’s notable appearances include Beasts of No Nation, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and The Harder They Fall.
