Govt conducts mass wedding for 300 couples in Kebbi

Three hundred couples were on Friday joined together in marital union in a Kebbi State Government-funded mass wedding.

The government also provided financial and material support to help the new couples start their new lives.

Coordinated by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje and the Emir of Gwandu, the ceremony took place at the Emir’s Palace in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.

This is the second mass wedding organized under Governor Nasir Idris’s administration.

The beneficiaries, drawn from the 21 local government areas of the state, received ₦180,000 each as dowries during the ceremony.

The solemnization of the marriage was conducted by the Walin Gwandu, Malam Muktar, assisted by other prominent Islamic clerics.

The committee responsible for organizing the wedding stated that all couples underwent medical screenings, while grooms were assessed to ensure they had a trade and shelter to support their wives.

The committee chairman, Suleman Argungu highlighted the success of the previous mass wedding, noting that only three couples separated, while over 100 births were recorded.

Some of the religious leaders at the event praised the initiative, emphasizing its role in promoting morality and reducing social vices in society.

Speaking at the event, Governor Nasir Idris reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that benefit the masses, describing the mass wedding as an essential part of governance.

One of the beneficiaries, Abubakar Aliyu, a visually impaired person, stated that his disability had made it difficult for him to afford a wedding on his own.

As part of the empowerment package, the couples received farming equipment, including water pumping machines, as well as cash donations to support their businesses.
