Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has credited his leadership style to the virtues of humility, contentment, and love instilled in him by his late mother.
In a statement posted on the state’s official Facebook page, the governor emphasised that his mother’s teachings on simplicity and service have profoundly shaped his life and career.
Governor Oyebanji made these remarks on Friday in Ikogosi Ekiti, during the commissioning of an ultra-modern multipurpose hall donated to the First Baptist Church, Ikogosi, by the Abiyamo Esther Oyebanji Foundation, a foundation established in memory of his mother.
Reflecting on his upbringing, he shared that the values he learned at home continue to guide his approach to governance, enabling him to serve with perspective and empathy.
He described his late mother as a model of true motherhood, who dedicated her resources to supporting the less privileged and raising her children with strong principles for success.
The governor urged parents to instil values of honesty, love, and empathy in their children and encouraged the Church and the local community to make full use of the hall while maintaining a culture of care for its preservation.
He also assured residents that more development projects are planned for Ikogosi Ekiti and other towns in the state, calling for a united commitment to collective growth and shared prosperity.
“We are here today to give glory to God and celebrate our late Mother who lived for us. Mummy is no more, the greatest legacy to her is what we are doing today, walking the talk, the way he brought us up in humility, contentment, and in love for everybody around us.”
“We were brought up to show love to everybody, to respect people, fear God and serve him. So I am happy today that between myself and my siblings, we can bring this together in her memory”, the Governor said.
Additionally, his wife, Olayemi Oyebanji, described the late Esther Abosede Oyebanji as both a disciplinarian and a philanthropist.
She highlighted that the governor’s leadership qualities—his empathy, deep care for the people, and dedication to justice—are rooted in his upbringing, noting that these values have been ingrained in him long before he entered public service.
