Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has approved the sum of N3.5 billion for funding the 2024 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) intervention projects.
This announcement was shared on the state government’s Facebook page on Monday, following the commencement of the 2023 UBEC/SUBEB projects, which marked its opening bid on Tuesday.
Emphasizing the government’s commitment, Prof. Femi Akinwumi, Chairman of Ekiti SUBEB, noted that the aim is to create and improve the learning environment for public primary schools statewide.
Recalling the government’s efforts in the education sector in 2022 and 2023, Governor Oyebanji stated that his administration has contributed to sustaining the sector.
The statement read, “Governor Oyebanji in the past two years has consistently funded UBEC/SUBEB projects by matching the 2022 and 2023 grants which have facilitated sustained government intervention in the basic education sector.
“Prof. Akinwumi further highlighted key achievements under the Oyebanji administration, including the procurement and distribution of instructional materials, employment of additional teaching and non-teaching staff, construction and renovation of classrooms, training and retraining of educators, and provision of ICT equipment for public schools.”
Expressing confidence in the timely delivery of projects, Prof. Akinwumi emphasized the board’s commitment to expediting the execution of the 2024 projects and encouraged teachers and education stakeholders to demonstrate increased diligence in their duties, ensuring that the state government’s significant investment in education yields meaningful results.
