44-year-old younger sister of the governor of Taraba State, Atsi Kefas has died from gunshot wounds sustained during an attack a few days ago, in Kente village, Wukari local government council of the state.
NEW DAILY PRIME learnt that Atsi gave up the ghost at a private hospital in Abuja, where she had been receiving treatment after being transferred from the Federal University Teaching Hospital in Wukari.
However, conflicting reports have emerged regarding the circumstances of the attack.
While some sources claim it was the result of a bandit attack, others suggest it may have been caused by an accidental discharge from a security operative travelling with her.
The state police command, through spokesperson Usman Abdullahi, has, however, attributed the incident to an armed robbery.
As of the time of this report, the state government has not issued an official statement regarding the tragic incident, and the lack of clarity has fueled widespread condemnation and concerns over the persistent insecurity in Taraba.
Her death has added to the growing anxiety over safety in the state, where such attacks have become increasingly frequent.
