Global Wissen Consult, a Swedish Embassy-backed digital training firm, has expressed its intention to collaborate with the Lagos State Ministry of Tertiary Education to enhance digital skills training for students in state-owned tertiary institutions.  

The partnership proposal was discussed during the week at Alausa at a meeting that brought together the Ministry’s management, Vice Chancellors, Provosts of state-owned tertiary institutions, and representatives of Global Wissen Consult.

Addressing the delegation, the Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to integrating digital literacy into the educational curriculum to boost students’ employability and competitiveness in the global job market.  

“We recognize the importance of digital literacy in enhancing the employability and competitiveness of our students. Therefore, we look forward to collaborating with Global Wissen Consult to provide world-class digital training and information technology education,” Sule stated.

He highlighted the Lagos State Government’s investments in digital training facilities, IT infrastructure, and skilled personnel across its tertiary institutions. 

According to him, initiatives such as Eko Digital Skills and Job Initiative Lagos (JIL) have been implemented to equip students and youths with entrepreneurial skills, artificial intelligence (AI) expertise, and other digital competencies.  

Sule emphasised the Ministry’s readiness to support initiatives that offer students globally relevant training, positioning them for success in the digital economy.  

Representing Global Wissen Consult, Nathalie Sundelin stressed the need for digital literacy in today’s fast-evolving technological landscape.  

“Our goal is to empower students with the digital skills necessary to compete in the global job market,” Sundelin stated.  

She explained that the proposed collaboration would provide students access to cutting-edge training programs in digital marketing, design, emerging technologies, business management, and creative skills.

The partnership idea emerged following the Ministry’s participation in the European Union Students Fair, where discussions centred on equipping students with industry-relevant skills.
