FME launches ‘Back2School’ drive to enroll Almajiri, out-of-school children in classrooms

In a bold step towards tackling the issue of out-of-school children in Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Education (FME), led by the Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, has announced the official handover of children mopped up through its ‘Back2School’ enrollment drive.

This initiative, conducted in collaboration with the National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education (NCAOOSCE), seeks to integrate Almajiri and other out-of-school children into formal education.

The handover ceremony began on November 15 and continues through November 16, at designated locations across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The Minister of Education, Maruf Tunji Alausa, and the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike approved free enrollment for these children, ensuring no financial burden on their parents.

Alausa praised the Executive Secretary of NCAOOSCE, Muhammad Sani Idris, and Wike, for their pivotal roles in driving this initiative.

He lauded their unwavering commitment to reducing the number of out-of-school children and advancing the nation’s quest for inclusive and equitable education.

“This ‘Back2School’ drive is not just an enrollment campaign; it is a testament to the government’s dedication to bridging educational gaps and ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality education,” Alausa stated.

The initiative underscores the federal government’s resolve to combat educational inequity and foster a brighter future for Nigeria’s youth.
