A fire outbreak at a residential storage facility in Oyo town on Saturday destroyed herbal products worth several millions of naira, despite swift response by state firefighters who battled for hours to contain the blaze.
The incident occurred at Olanlokun Junction, Obabi Street in the Old Cele area of Oyo town, Oyo State.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, the fire was reported at exactly 10:39 a.m., and firemen arrived at the scene just six minutes later.

“On getting there, the crew met heaps of local herbs within the premises of a residential building being used to store different types of local herbs, engulfed by fire,” Akinyinka said.
He noted that the firefighters quickly commenced operations and successfully curtailed the fire from spreading to the main building and nearby structures.
“The properties worth several millions of naira were saved by the officers of the agency,” he added.
Akinyinka explained that it took over three hours for the firemen to fully extinguish the blaze due to the massive accumulation of herbs, which intensified the fire.
