The Federal Government has warned airlines in the country over unnecessary flight delays, saying it will, henceforth begin to sanction errant airlines.

The government spoke through the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Head of Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, during a road walk in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital on Saturday.

The statement also urged the airlines to ensure that aviation passengers are more informed about their (airlines) challenges while travelling via airports.

According to him, this is the heavy travel season, adding that a lot of travelers need to be properly sensitized about the cause of delays and solutions to the problem.

Achimugu stated, “We’re now in the high travel season in aviation and as you know there’s been a lot of flight disruptions as well as a lot of complaints.

“Our duty at NCAA is to sensitize our passengers because most of the time when complaints come about these disruptions, it comes from a place of poor knowledge about their rights and responsibilities as air passengers.

“We must protect both the passenger and the airline.”
