ADO EKITI, Nigeria – In a renewed push to ensure all children receive a basic education, Professor Femi Akinwumi, Chairman of the Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to achieving zero out-of-school children in the state.

Speaking at the inauguration of new local government chairmen for the Association of Primary School Head Teachers of Nigeria (AOPSHON), Professor Akinwumi emphasized the  Oyebanji administration’s dedication to free and compulsory education.  He highlighted ongoing infrastructure development, teacher support programs, and the strict prohibition of illegal school fees as key elements in this effort.

“The Oyebanji administration is unwavering in its pursuit of free and compulsory education,” Professor Akinwumi stated. “Our programs and policies are strategically designed to reduce the number of out-of-school children to zero and significantly enhance the quality of teaching and learning outcomes.”

He outlined a series of accomplishments in the basic education sector under Governor Oyebanji, including:

Improved Infrastructure: Creating conducive learning environments through the construction and renovation of school facilities.

Enhanced Resources: Procuring and distributing essential instructional materials to support effective learning.

Teacher Well-being: Ensuring regular payment of salaries and allowances, alongside opportunities for professional development and access to car and housing loans.

Career Advancement: Extending the service years of primary school teachers with university degrees to Grade Level 16.

Professor Akinwumi commended the outgoing AOPSHON executives for their service and urged the newly elected leaders to build upon their predecessors’ achievements. He called upon head teachers to actively collaborate in ensuring that no child is denied access to education.
