Drama as Edo gov presents N605bn 2025 budget to state Assembly

Governor, Monday Okpebholo of Edo State today presented a 2025 budget proposal of N605 billion to the State House of Assembly.

Tagged the ‘Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo’, the proposal marks a 25 per cent increase from the 2024 budget under Godwin Obaseki’s administration.

Governor Okpebholo disclosed that N223 billion, representing 37 per cent of the total budget, is allocated for recurrent expenditure, while N381 billion, accounting for 63 per cent, is earmarked for capital projects.

Addressing the assembly during the presentation, Okpebholo stated that the budget is aligned with his administration’s five-point agenda, security, infrastructural development, healthcare, food sufficiency, and education.

Meanwhile, asectoral breakdown of the budget by the governor revealed key allocations, including, N162 billion for road development across the state, N48 billion for education—N63.9 billion for health services, N1.8 billion for the state’s Health Insurance Scheme, and N4.5 billion for the agricultural sector.
Okpebholo emphasised that the budget was the result of extensive consultations and pledged to uphold transparency and accountability in its implementation to ensure effective service delivery to the people of Edo State.
Also, the Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku, assured the governor of the assembly’s commitment to promptly review and approve the budget.

Agbebaku also reaffirmed the legislature’s dedication to collaborating with the executive for the betterment of Edo residents.
