Dogara urges Tinubu to approve oil exploration, dam in Bauchi

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has called on President Bola Tinubu to approve immediate oil exploration and drilling in Bauchi State, following the discovery of oil in commercial quantities.

Dogara believes that such a move would make Tinubu’s re-election bid unnecessary in 2027, as the people would already see the tangible benefits of his administration.

Dogara made this call on Saturday at Zaranda village in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, during the inauguration of a 2.5km road constructed by Senator Shehu Buba, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District.

The former Speaker also appealed for the Federal Government to fund and commence the long-delayed construction of the Bagel-Zungur Dam.

He stated, “We have two major requests for the President. First, we want him to approve and flag off the construction of the Bagel-Zungur Dam. Second, we urge him to approve oil exploration and drilling in Bauchi State. If these projects are completed before 2027, the President won’t need to campaign in Bauchi for his second term. His work will speak for him.”

Dogara expressed his appreciation for President Tinubu’s commitment to national development, saying, “We appreciate the President’s efforts to develop our state, and we are confident that with his support, we can achieve great things.”

During the inauguration of the 2.5km road, Senator Shehu Buba highlighted that the project was part of his constituency development initiatives aimed at improving rural access, boosting agricultural trade, and enhancing livelihoods.

He further stated, “This road was constructed within the stipulated time to provide sustainable access for rural communities. During my election campaign, the people of Zaranda raised concerns about the poor state of their roads, and I promised to address them. Today’s inauguration is a fulfillment of that promise.”

Senator Buba also mentioned other ongoing development projects, including the construction of hand pumps, solar-powered streetlights, and school renovations across his constituency, and reassured residents that his projects were designed to benefit all constituents, regardless of political affiliation.

He concluded, “This is just the beginning. We have a catalog of developmental programmes for the Bauchi South Senatorial District.”
