Natives of the Obele community in Emohua Local Government Area (LGA), Rivers State, displaced over an alleged rival cult clash, have cried for state government intervention after the murder of five persons.

Recalled that on 5 February, suspected cultists invaded the community, marched from house to house in search of their targets, leading to the death of five persons in different compounds.

Due to the fear of death, significant numbers of natives who flee their residential homes remain homeless.

In a united voice, Mr Bestman Amadi, a concerned citizen, has beckoned Governor Siminalayi Fubara to come to their rescue, as the majority of displaced persons have nowhere to go, and they are afraid of returning to their community because of insecurity.

In the midst of the insecurity tantrum, some members of the community who are still in the community live in fear, while some citizens have relocated to nearby communities and LGAs.

Explaining the situation and challenges faced in the community, Amadi noted that “old parents and community members have been stranded, seeking refuge from the insecurity that has plagued their homes.

“The people of Obele deserve better. They deserve to feel safe and secure in their homes.”

While expressing his displeasure over the delayed action, he said, “Deep concern and disappointment over the inaction of the local government chairman and prominent Emolga politicians regarding the plight of the people of Obele community.

“It is appalling that the local government leadership has not taken concrete measures to ensure the safe return of those stranded individuals.

“As the chief executive of the local government, it is their responsibility to provide adequate security, shelter and support to those affected. I implore you to take immediate action to address this crisis and provide relief to those affected,” Amadi noted.
