The Delta State Police Command and Nigerian Air Force authorities are investigating a recent altercation between their personnel, which they described as an embarrassing incident.

Commissioner of Police (CP) Olufemi Abaniwonda, reaffirmed the strong working relationship between security agencies in the state and assured that measures are being put in place to prevent a recurrence.

This was contained in a statement shared by Edafe Bright, the police spokesperson on Thursday through their Facebook page.

The incident occurred between officers of the Quick Response Squad (QRS) and Air Force personnel stationed at the Jeddo base in Okpe Local Government Area.

According to the police, their officers were carrying out a lawful duty when they were allegedly attacked without provocation.

Recalled that on 11 February, around 5:00 p.m., QRS operatives on crime prevention patrol stopped a Toyota Corolla with registration number AKD-73-FL.

Upon noticing the police, the vehicle’s occupants fled, prompting officers to pursue them.

One suspect, identified as 25-year-old Ibohama Precious, was apprehended, and substances suspected to be Indian hemp, Canadian Loud, and other hard drugs were recovered.

While transporting the suspect and seized items to the police station, the officers were halted at an Air Force checkpoint in Jeddo.

Air Force personnel allegedly demanded the release of the suspect, but the policemen refused.

This led to an altercation, during which the Air Force personnel reportedly assaulted the police officers.

Authorities from both agencies are working to address the situation and ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.
