Following the death of a resident in Enugu State, the Commissioner of Police (CP), Kanayo Uzuegbu, has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police of the State CID to launch a full investigation.

The force spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, announced this development on Thursday through the security agency’s Facebook page.

The security agency disclosed that a resident of Enugu, Smith Odinaka, was shot on October 13, 2024, near the Mercedes-Benz Company along the Enugu/Port Harcourt motorway in Enugu State at around 1 a.m.

To ensure that justice is served, CP Uzuegbu reaffirmed that all necessary measures will be taken to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

However, after preliminary findings, the force spokesperson indicated that the deceased was shot in the presence of his two male friends while driving a Mercedes-Benz car by a yet-to-be-identified suspected security agent.

He added that Odinaka sustained injuries and was declared dead on arrival at the hospital by a resident doctor. His remains have been deposited in the mortuary, and an autopsy will be conducted.

Addressing the viral claims linking the incident to the security forces, Ndukwe stated that the investigation is ongoing to uncover the truth, noting that further information will be made public upon the conclusion of the findings.
