Lagos State Attorney-General (AG) and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), has said compliance with the Public Procurement Law of Lagos State remained sacred and non-negotiable.
In a post shared on X on Saturday, Pedro said this while addressing stakeholders at a procurement summit with the theme: “Ensuring Best Practices in Public Procurement in a Dwindling Economy,” organized by the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency.
The Director of Commercial Law in the Ministry of Justice, Mrs. Folashade Thomas-Orogan, representing the Lagos State Attorney-General, said the state must be committed to being transparent, competitive, and accountable.
The AG noted that any contrary opinion or practice for their personal benefit is not acceptable.
He said that all public officers should be conversant with the procurement law and fully comply with its provisions with regard to their functions, stating its compliance must be acknowledged in all economic phases.
The Governing Board of the Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Pedro, encouraged the public officers to continue in the implementation of the Public Procurement Law while highlighting the benefits to the state.
Also addressing the attendees, the Director-General, Lagos State Public Procurement Agency, Mr. Fatai Onafowote, said the aim of the summit was to brainstorm and generate ideas to improve the system.
Highlighting the implications of the macro-economic environment, the Director-General, Onafowote, said the government agency aims to ensure citizens security and welfare, particularly in this challenging economic situation experienced in Nigeria.
He added that the goal of the summit was “to proffer practicable solutions and strategies that will enable the state government to deliver dividends of democracy to the people of the state without compromising quality or circumventing due process in public procurement, even at a time of macro-economic instability our country is currently passing through.”
