In a major crackdown on criminal activities during the festive season, the Police have arrested 23 suspected armed robbers, cultists, and kidnappers across in many states of the federation during Christmas celebration.

In a statement today, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the Police spokesperson, said officers acted on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun to implement intensified anti-crime strategies to ensure public safety during the holiday period.

He said in Lagos State, a swift police response to a distress call in the Safejo area of Amukoko led to the arrest of three armed hoodlums in the early hours of December 25, 2024.

According to him, the suspects Emmanuel Okoli (20), Ogunde Tejiri (20), and Emmanuel Orji (18), were caught with dangerous weapons used in robbery attacks on fun-seekers.

Adejobi further stated that efforts are ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang.

Similarly, he said in Kaduna State, operatives of the Saminaka Division arrested Sule Muhammad (25), a notorious kidnapper linked to multiple abduction incidents.

“His arrest, which occurred at about 8 p.m. on Christmas Day, resulted in the recovery of a fabricated AK-47 rifle. The suspect confessed to being part of a kidnapping gang, whose other members were apprehended in August 2024”, Adejobi said.

Moreover, he noted that authorities were intensifying efforts to apprehend additional gang members and recover more weapons.

He added that the crackdown were carried out in other states, including Delta, Ogun, Katsina, Benue, Imo, and the Federal Capital Territory(FCT) where police successfully disrupted criminal activities, arrested suspects, and recovered weapons.

Commending the officers involved, he said the IGP praised their vigilance and dedication to public safety, emphasising the importance of ensuring a peaceful holiday season.

Adejobi said Egbetokun urged the public to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to law enforcement authorities.

“The Nigeria Police Force remains fully committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all citizens as we celebrate this joyful season. Let us work together to ensure the spirit of the festivities is unmarred by criminal activities,” he stated.

He reiterated police commitment to maintaining law and order throughout the remainder of the festive period, assuring Nigerians of their unwavering dedication to safeguarding lives and property.
