The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, will carry out the oath of office to 87 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SAN) on Monday, September 30, 2024.

The event marks the next step in the careers of these practitioners as it is in appreciation of their efforts towards the law.

The venue for the event will be the Supreme Court in Abuja where members of the bench, lawyers and other invited dignitaries are expected to be present to mark this occasion.

To be made a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is a prestigious title that is comparable to the title of Queen’s Counsel awarded in other countries and represents excellence and commitment to the profession.

Justice Kekere-Ekun, who was recently approved by the Senate as Chief Justice of Nigeria will officiate the swearing-in ceremony, a move that indicates the changes being witnessed within the judiciary of Nigeria. The new SANs come from various branches of the law and have exceptional qualities of skill, integrity and loyalty to justice.

The swearing-in is such that is hoped will boost the legal sector in Nigeria once again, motivating young lawyers, and enhancing the need for professionalism and disciplinary practices in the law.

The legal community looks forward to this ceremony and the appointment of the new Senior Advocates is a reminder of the dynamic and robust status of the judiciary in Nigeria.
