Human rights activist and lawyer Femi Falana’s daughter, Folakemi, has weighed in on the ongoing feud between her family and social media influencer, Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse.

Earlier, The New Daily Prime reported that VeryDarkMan posted a leaked audio clip on his Instagram page, in which controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, made serious allegations against Mr Falana and his son, singer Falz.

In the recording, Bobrisky alleged that during his six-month sentence at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for currency abuse, Falz and his father contacted him, offering to apply for a presidential pardon on his behalf.

Additionally, Bobrisky alleged that officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) extorted N15 million from him in exchange for dropping money laundering charges.

The leaked audio sparked widespread public outrage, prompting calls for a thorough investigation into the alleged corruption within the EFCC, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), as well as scrutiny of Mr Falana and Falz.

In response, Falz, through a lawsuit filed by Falana & Falana’s Chambers, demanded an immediate retraction and apology from VeryDarkMan, giving him a 24-hour deadline.

The lawsuit, signed by Taiwo Olawanle, warned that VeryDarkMan’s failure to comply would lead to legal action.

However, Folakemi, in a statement posted on her Instagram Friday, confirmed that the social media influencer ignored her brother’s demands.

She further stated that VeryDarkMan should now prepare to face legal proceedings, having failed to retract his defamatory statements and issue an apology.

Folakemi emphasised her family’s commitment to truth and justice amid the controversy, reiterating their dedication to clearing their names.

The statement partly read: “My parents and our firm, Falana & Falana, have been applying for presidential pardons for Nigerians absolutely free way before a lot of you were born or before you could talk. Slide 1 is from 2016, and Slide 2 is from 2022. It’s crazy that some Nigerians act like they can’t read or think for themselves. It’s unfortunate.”

Folakemi expressed frustration and disbelief that some people are so quick to accept baseless accusations made by Verydarkman (VDM) against two well-known individuals: her father and the rapper Falz.

“It’s even crazier that all it takes is for a ridiculous character like VDM to accuse my dad and Falz of bribery, corruption and perversion of the course of Justice, and you suddenly forget who they are and what they stand for. For him to have the audacity to go as far as even accusing Falz of being homosexual and having an affair with Bobrisky is wild. The fact that some of you actually believe it is what is blowing my mind.” she wrote.

She rounded up by saying, “Seeing as you have refused to do the needful, Verydarkman see you in court.”

Recall that in April, the EFCC arrested Bobrisky on six counts of money laundering and Naira mutilation. But, during his trial at the Federal High Court in Lagos, Justice Abimbola Awogboro struck out the money laundering charges (counts five and six).

Justice Awogboro, however, sentenced Bobrisky to six months in prison for Naira abuse, with no option for a fine.

Bobrisky’s six-month jail term started on 24 March, and he was released from Kirikiri Correctional Centre on 5 August.
