The 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has commended the boldness of Ushie Uguamaye, the Lagos State corps member who alleged threats to her life after criticizing President Bola Tinubu’s governance.

Uguamaye made headlines after her video gained widespread mixed reactions from netizens.

Abubakar, in a statement shared via his X page on Sunday, expressed support for the corps member, praising her boldness and wisdom.

He described her as part of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere.

The former vice president said, “Raye embodies the spirit of a new generation of women who champion the ideals of popular participation and unwavering advocacy in the political sphere.

“I deeply admire her boldness and wisdom—her fearless resolve to speak truth to power, undeterred by the weight of opposition.”

He praised her for following the path of great women in Nigeria, saying, “She follows in the footsteps of formidable trailblazers like Gambo Sawaba, Funmilayo Ransom-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo and countless other women who have stood resolute in defense of the common good.

“Rather than being met with hostility, Raye deserves encouragement and support. “

Moreover, he added, “She is a shining emblem of the Nigerian youth—a testament to the long-held promise that the leaders of tomorrow are already among us, ready to shape a better future.”

Earlier, New Daily Prime reported that Amnesty International (AI) had condemned the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) for threatening a Lagos corps member over the anti-Tinubu video.
