The Arewa Youth Assembly has called for calm among citizens in Northern Nigeria as the region grapples with significant power outages, a situation attributed to the vandalism of two towers along the 330kV Shiroro–Kaduna transmission lines.
The ongoing blackouts have affected several states, leading to growing frustration among residents.
In a statement released by Mohammed Salihu Danlami, Speaker of the Arewa Youth Assembly, the group commended the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and its Managing Director, Engr. Dr. Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, for their diligent efforts to restore power to the affected areas.
The assembly highlighted Abdulaziz’s commitment to ensuring a steady power supply throughout the country, despite the challenges posed by the recent vandalism.
However, the assembly also expressed concern over individuals attempting to exploit the crisis to undermine Abdulaziz’s leadership and integrity. They warned that such actions could incite further division and chaos within Northern Nigeria, particularly as Abdulaziz is from the region.
“The security challenges in the area have significantly hindered repair efforts for the damaged towers, even though trained experts and resources are available,” the assembly stated.
They pointed out that insecurity has made the affected locations difficult to access, complicating restoration efforts.
In light of these circumstances, the Arewa Youth Assembly urged Northerners to remain patient and rational, resisting any attempts to politicize the situation for selfish interests. They emphasized the importance of unity in overcoming the challenges posed by the power outages.
“The TCN, under the leadership of Mr. Abdulaziz, has been working tirelessly to restore power as soon as possible,”
“We call on Nigerians, especially those in the North, to understand that the ongoing issues stem from security barriers and not from a lack of effort.” the statement noted.
The assembly concluded by urging the public to support the TCN in its efforts and to remain focused on collective solutions rather than falling prey to divisive rhetoric.
As power restoration efforts continue, the Arewa Youth Assembly remains hopeful for a resolution to the outages affecting the region.
