Alleged notorious cross-border car theft dealer arrested in Kenya

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has announced that an alleged notorious cross-border car theft dealer has been arrested in Kenya after a long chase.

This information was shared via their social media handle on Monday, acknowledging his successful apprehension to their officers from the Loitoktok Police Station.

The notice stated that their team identified the suspected individual, Muchiri, behind the vehicle wheel. He reportedly abandoned the alleged stolen truck and fled on foot when confronted. Muchiri was eventually apprehended after a brief pursuit by a security officer.

After his apprehension, he was sent to Loitoktok Police Station, and further interrogation commenced, leading to several discoveries.

However, the investigation disclosed that Muchiri played a key role in organizing several car theft syndicates, which has led to the continued robbing of unsuspecting public members.

It was learned that the stolen vehicles were smuggled across the border into a neighboring country and sold at rock-bottom prices. The item recovered was a white Toyota Dyna mini-truck with the registration number KCG 508Q.

Further disclosure noted that the white Toyota Dyna mini-truck was stolen from a 32-year-old man named Evans Havi and was found unconscious at Kalii guest house.

The DCI said that they “believed that Muchiri dragged Havi before making his escape with the vehicle.”

DCI announced that the suspect is undergoing investigation and will be charged in court, as the suspect is under their custody.

“The suspect is in police custody, undergoing processing as detectives prepare for his arraignment while the recovered motor vehicle is being detained as an exhibit.”

Urging the public to stay alert, the DCI advised the public on how the criminals operate as they employ new tactics, including stupefying, to carry out their nefarious deeds.
